The Miami Hurricanes recruited Conrad Hussey in the Class of 2023 out of St. Thomas High School. But the safety wound up attending Florida State. As things go in this new NIL era, sometimes things go full circle, right? And now Hussey is returning to his home area as a Cane.

It was a bit of a rough road to this point for Hussey, as he was dismissed from FSU’s team in 2024 and wound up at Oregon State this past season. But he played in just three games, ending with five tackles, a half tackle for loss with a pass backup.

At FSU for two seasons he started four total games and ended his time there playing in 24 games with 40 tackles with an interception, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

He went in the portal after the season and chose UM over Tennessee.

Hussey has two years of eligibility remaining. He played safety at FSU and also worked at nickel for some reps this past season. He can provide depth for the Canes at both spots, considering Miami has Bryce Fitzgerald and touted BC transfer Omar Thornton who can also play both spots, with the team also returning starting safety Zechariah Poyser.

Per Pro Football Focus, Hussey played 47 reps this year and had a 64.6 grade. He worked in for 190 reps in 2024 at FSU (50.8 grade) and 213 reps in 2023 (75.4 grade). He’s noted with eight missed tackles in his career, and over the three years he’s allowed nine catches on 15 targets for 206 yards and two TDs.

Hussey was a four-star prospect out of high school and ranked the nation’s No. 16 safety by On3.  Now he’s looking to live up to that potential at UM.
