BREAKING: Despite delay, LSU wins the battle to sign Trenton Henderson
Trenton Henderson was planning to sign with LSU on Wednesday, but with the unknown coaching situation on the defensive side of the ball in Baton Rouge, he pushed it back to Friday.
On Friday morning, the 4-star EDGE prospect out of Pensacola (Fla.) Pine Forest made it official when he revealed he was sticking with his commitment to the Tigers.
Henderson is signing with LSU on Friday, the final day of December’s Early Signing Period, he tells Rivals National Recruiting Analyst Chad Simmons.
The Top 100 prospect’s decision to sign with LSU comes despite uncertainty surrounding the future of LSU’s defensive staff. While no changes have been made by new head coach Lane Kiffin, reports have dominated headlines on Tulane’s interest in LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker as a top candidate for the head coaching job with the Green Wave.
That could mean LSU loses not just Baker, but also Henderson’s primary recruiter in LSU defensive ends and edge rushers coach Kevin Peoples, who played a big role in getting Henderson committed out of the Sunshine State.
There’s nothing determined yet on the future of Baker and Peoples, but Henderson said he still felt comfortable enough making the decision to ink with the Tigers on Friday.
“I didn’t say a lot about my favorites and stuff most of the time, but LSU was one of the schools on top for a long time,” Henderson said when he committed. “Florida and LSU were up there, then Texas came on too. The coaching staff kept LSU in the picture. They stayed consistent, they never overloaded me with too much recruiting and they did it the right way.”

Henderson is set to be an early-enrollee at LSU with a January arrival to campus.
Florida State and Miami were among the teams that pushed to flip Henderson away from LSU this week, but he told Simmons the decision came down to choosing the Bayou Bengals over Auburn.
Henderson is ranked as the No. 77 overall prospect in the Rivals Industry Rankings, checking in as the No. 12 EDGE rusher in the 2026 class.
On Thursday, the Tigers signed 5-star Richard Anderson, who is ranked as the No. 1 defensive lineman in America.
On Friday, following Henderson’s announcement, two more LSU commits on the defensive line will reveal their choice in 5-star Lamar Brown and 4-star Deuce Geralds. Both are ranked as Top 100 prospects, and Brown checks in as the No. 1 overall prospect in the country.
