WATCH: How a new basketball affected March Madness

You have probably noticed that in the last two seasons, the NCAA Tournament has been played with this bright orange basketball. I have likely annoyed friends, family, and co-workers with how often I bring it up. 

During this year’s tournament, however, I was not alone.

The Wilson Evo NXT basketball has been the topic of debate among players, coaches, and fans, with many believing that it is ruining the NCAA Tournament. Despite being the official ball of the postseason, many teams choose not to use it during the regular season.

The basketball’s extra grip and lighter weight have been attributed to low scores and serious shooting droughts in the last two postseasons.

Is it the reason your team lost? That’s complicated. But the issues with it have created a discussion about college basketball that for some reason is almost never talked about.
