Two Kentucky Signees in Final Rivals300 Rankings of 2026

National Signing Day is Wednesday, Feb. 4. What was once a holiday of sorts for college football fans has been greatly diminished by the Early Signing Period and the transfer portal. It still serves as the final day of the recruiting cycle, and our friends at the Rivals scouting department have updated the rankings one final time.

Two future Kentucky Wildcats are in the final edition of the Rivals300 for the 2026 recruiting class. It’s not too shabby when you consider that Will Stein signed his 14-man recruiting class on his first day as the Kentucky head football coach.

Kenny Darby was the final piece added to the puzzle. Offensive coordinator Joe Sloan flipped the wide receiver from LSU to Kentucky. He’s the No. 198 overall player in the recruiting class, up more than 20 spots from No. 219 overall.

A record-setting receiver at Bossier City (La.) Airline, Darby led the state of Louisiana in receiving yards (1,754) as a junior. Darby was a highly productive wide receiver who scored over 30 total touchdowns with 180+ receptions in his final two seasons of high school ball. The late recruiting win is a true generator with exceptional route-running skills.

As Darby rose up the rankings, Kentucky’s other signee fell. Matt Ponatoski fell from No. 185 to No. 234 overall.

Ponatoski’s rankings slide should not diminish your optimism in the quarterback’s future. This appears to be an indictment on his production over the last two years.

During his junior campaign, Ponatoski put up gaudy numbers. He completed 69% of his passes for 4,217 yards, 57 touchdowns, and only three interceptions while leading Cincinnati Moeller to the Division I State Title game. One thing remained a constant — he only threw one pick and completed 66.1% of his passes — but the other numbers took a pretty big dip. He had just 2,395 yards and 28 touchdowns, as Moeller’s season ended in the second round of the playoffs to rival St. X.

Even though Ponatoski wasn’t as productive last fall, the new Kentucky coaches are excited to get to work with him. Stein took a trip to Cincinnati earlier this month, and Sloan believes he has all of the tools to be successful in the SEC.

“Matt’s an excellent football player… I think he has elite arm talent. I think he has toughness in the pocket,” said Sloan. “He’s really creative. He’s a really good athlete in terms of his balance, his mobility, and his ability to create power. So I couldn’t be more excited about Matt.”
