Kentucky linebacker commit Max Mohring flips to Northwestern
Kentucky has eight scholarship linebackers on the roster in 2025, but three of them are in their final year of eligibility. The Wildcats must address this position this offseason. It might not come in the high school market.
The Wildcats lost their only linebacker commitment in the 2026 cycle on Monday. Malvern (Pa.) Prep senior Max Mohring officially flipped to Northwestern after taking an official visit to Evanston over the weekend to see those Wildcats play Michigan at Wrigley Field.

Max Mohring committed to Kentucky on June 17 after finishing an official visit in Lexington. The Mid-Atlantic native picked UK over UCF. That ultimately led to a flip to a Big Ten school just five months later.
The early signing period is just over two weeks away. Kentucky is now down to just 14 commits. This is on track to be the smallest signing class of the Mark Stoops era. Hoover (Ala.) High prospect Justyn Hartley is listed as an EDGE but might be a better positional fit at linebacker. The Wildcats remain active in the junior college recruiting market and will again be active shoppers when the transfer portal opens in January. Odds are very high that linebacker is addressed in college football free agency.
