Kentucky Volleyball Set to Take on Tennessee in SEC Tournament Semifinals

Kentucky volleyball returns to the court Monday night in Savannah, Georgia, intending to keep its dominant hot streak alive. The No. 1 Wildcats will face No. 4 Tennessee at 6 p.m. (SEC Network) in the SEC Tournament semifinal, only weeks after their incredible 3-1 win over the Lady Vols in front of one of the largest crowds in program history.

Tennessee took down No. 5 Florida on Sunday, 3-1 (25-27, 27-25, 25-22, 25-19), to reach the semis. The Lady Vols showcased their adaptability and grit throughout the match, coming back from a first-set loss and dominating down the stretch. Tennessee finished with 57 kills on .262 hitting, holding the Gators to a .179 percentage behind 64 digs and 10 blocks.

Senior outside hitter Hayden Kubik led the way with 15 kills and 11 digs for the Vols, tallying her sixth double-double of the season, while her teammate Starr Williams added 14 kills. Setter Caroline Kerr was a consistent force, tallying 43 assists and 10 digs, while libero Gülce Güçtekin anchored the backcourt with 19 digs.

Kentucky and Tennessee’s November meeting, which took place in Memorial Coliseum, was a classic rivalry match, with high-pressure points, momentum swings, and standout performances from Wildcat stars such as Eva Hudson and Brooklyn DeLeye. After losing the first set, the Cats found a rhythm and roared back with confidence behind a pair of National Player of the Year semifinalists to overwhelm Tennessee late.

Now, the Lady Vols enter Monday’s match on a high after their win over Florida, while the Cats remain as the SEC’s unbeaten powerhouse.
