Kentucky adds Sam Houston State RB transfer Ramon Jefferson
Yahtzee!! The Kentucky football running back room received a boost ahead of the upcoming 2022 season.
On Tuesday afternoon, Sam Houston State transfer Ramon Jefferson announced through social media that he will take his talents to Lexington. The 5-foot-10, 215-pound Bronx, NY native was named an FCS Second-Team All-American in 2021 by the Associated Press, rushing for over 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Jefferson’s career started at Maine in 2017 when former Kentucky offensive coordinator Liam Coen was the OC for the Black Bears. A redshirt prospect in his first season of college football, Jefferson crossed the 1,000-yard threshold following Coen’s departure in 2018. The following year he transferred to the JUCO ranks, playing at Terry Wilson’s former home, Garden City.
Seeking a new home for his sixth and final season of college football eligibility, Jefferson entered the transfer portal shortly after the 2021 season concluded. He initially committed to Colorado, but reopened his recruitment in May. Jefferson first visited Tennessee, then quietly took a trip to Kentucky. He liked what he heard from the Wildcats’ coaching staff.

“It was nice, I really enjoyed it,” Jefferson told 247 Sports earlier this month. “I really like the offensive scheme, I feel it’ll fit my play style. … The staff and players I spoke with were really down to earth and open, great conference (and Kentucky) has been successful past (few) years.”
Jefferson will bring added insurance in case the Chris Rodriguez situation doesn’t shake favorably. Along with Rodriguez, he’ll join the likes of Kaovsiey Smoke, Jutahn McClain, and Le’Vell Wright as UK’s stable of ball carriers.
Welcome to the Big Blue Nation, Ramon.
