John Calipari and Bill Clinton were in Maysville, Kentucky on Wednesday

If you live in Maysville, Kentucky, you had some VIP company on Wednesday. John Calipari and former President Bill Clinton were among the guests at the dedication of a new multi-million dollar-statuary garden at St. Patrick Church.

The garden includes several bronze statues that tell the story of Christ’s final days and resurrection, opening just in time for Easter. It was developed by Jerry Lundergan, a Maysville native, who became friends with Clinton when he was the chair of the Kentucky Democratic Party. Lundergan, a UK alum, and his wife, Charlotte, are also Kentucky Basketball supporters and donated to Calipari’s foundation while he was coach, even serving on the board.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan also attended the dedication. Calipari posted pictures with Cardinal Dolan and President Clinton on social media, calling the garden a “must-see for Catholics and Christians alike.”

This is far from the first time Cal and Clinton have crossed paths. Clinton even came on Calipari’s “Coffee with Cal” podcast in 2020 (one of Cal’s many, many podcasts). Now, obviously, they have another connection, with Cal coaching Arkansas, Clinton’s home state school, and favorite team. I’m sure that came up yesterday.

Sources tell KSR’s Matt Jones that Calipari went to dinner afterwards. Internet sleuths discovered that he dined at Pasquale’s, an Italian restaurant specializing in pizza and calzones. The restaurant even posted some pictures on social media. I wonder if he indulged in the Wednesday special, spaghetti with one topping, garlic bread, and a drink for just $5.99. That’s a steal, especially in this economy.

Regardless of what you think of Calipari, Clinton, or even Jerry Lundergan, what a day for Maysville and Mason County.
