The final push for commitments in the 2027 high school cycle will begin this summer. June will be a monstrous month for the Kentucky football program. Will Stein‘s program will attempt to close on a bunch of targets. One of the biggest has locked in a commitment date.

Lincolnton (N.C.) High linebacker Jalaythan Mayfield emerged as a priority target for Kentucky quickly in January. The Wildcats remain firmly in the hunt just three months away from decision time. This blue-chip prospect will announce his college choice on July 17.

Jalaythan Mayfield is the No. 204 overall player in the 2027 Rivals Industry Ranking and is considered a top-20 linebacker in the class. Mayfield is a top-10 player in the Tar Heel State. Kentucky defensive coordinator Jay Bateman has been leading the charge in this recruitment for the Wildcats. UK got this four-star recruit on campus for a junior day in January and then for a spring practice on March 28. Mayfield will take his official visit to UK from June 19-21. That is slated to be the program’s biggest weekend of the summer and will be the final stop of Mayfield’s summer official visit tour. Indiana (April 17-19), Miami (May 29-31), Oregon (June 5-7), and Georgia (June 12-14) will also host Mayfield for an official visits.

It’s just about closing time on the recruiting trail. One of Kentucky’s biggest targets will announce his commitment just a month after his official visit in Lexington.
