Hawkeyes land safety Drew MacPherson
Just five days after receiving a scholarship offer from Iowa, safety Drew MacPherson has committed to the Hawkeyes. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Illinois native officially announced his decision this afternoon.
“It has always been a dream of mine to play collegiately and I would like to thank Coach Wallace, Coach Parker, and Coach Ferentz for the opportunity of a lifetime,” MacPherson said in his statement. “With that being said, I would like to announce my commitment to the University of Iowa!”
A do-it-all weapon at running back and wide receiver in high school, MacPherson finished his junior year with 855 yards rushing, 515 yards receiving, and 11 touchdowns for Loyola Academy, which has won back-to-back state titles in Class 8A.
MacPherson, who visited Iowa City last fall with high school teammate Ryan Fitzgerald, a preferred walk-on target for the Hawkeyes, projects more on the defensive side of the ball at safety in college.

In addition to Iowa, MacPherson earned scholarship offers from Army, Akron, Ball State, Ohio, Miami-OH, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Toledo, Kent State, Bucknell, Fordham, Eastern Illinois, and Illinois State during the recruiting process.
Overall, MacPherson is commitment No. 7 for the Hawkeyes as he joins Thomas Meyer, Carson Cooney, Joey VanWetzinga, Jimmy Sullivan, Burke Gautcher, and Eli Johnson in Iowa’s recruiting class of 2025.
