UPDATE: Former Auburn left tackle Xavier Chaplin commits to FSU
The Florida State football team picked up its fourth offensive line commitment on Friday, as former Auburn left tackle Xavier Chaplin decided to join the Seminoles. One of his representatives confirmed the commitment to Warchant.
Florida State already landed commitments from former Troy lineman Paul Bowling, former Purdue center Bradyn Joiner and former Bowling Green tackle Nate Pabst.
Chaplin started all 12 games at left tackle for the Tigers this past season. He is On3’s No. 4-rated offensive tackle in the Transfer Portal and No. 49 ranked player overall.
Earlier Report
Florida State got Auburn offensive line transfer Xavier Chaplin on a visit Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning, as the Seminoles continue to rebuild their offensive line this portal cycle.
The Seminoles were Chaplin’s second and final visit of his protal recruitment as he was at Kentucky prior to FSU. A decision will likely come in the next 48 hours between the two schools.
“I learned that they plan on trying to use me to showcase my talent the best they could,” Chaplin said. “They’re trying to get me out. They want to just show how dominant I am as a player and as an offensive linemen.”
The Seminoles see the 6-foot-7, 348-pound prospect as their starting left tackle, and he said he really hit it off with offensive line coach Herb Hand.

“I talked to him a little bit before I showed up here, but when I actually came in, this is my first time actually seeing the type of person he is, the type of coach he is,” Chaplin said. “And I’m in love with it all.”
Chaplin does already have some existing relationships with the Seminoles, including new quarterback Ashton Daniels as he is also transferring in from Auburn.
“It matters a lot to me because that’s who makes the o-line look good for real,” Chaplin said. “The quarterback’s getting the ball out quick, he’s not getting dirty, then everything’s good.”
Chaplin was also close with Bradyn Joiner when they were at Auburn; he called the new FSU center his first “true friend” out on The Plains before Joiner left for Purdue.
Chaplin also enjoyed his conversations with Florida State offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn.
“He just wants me to make the best decision for me,” the lineman said. “They’re not trying to force me to do anything I don’t want to do. They want it to be purely my decision off what I’ve seen and what I felt here.”
