FINAL: No. 14 Florida Gators 86, Georgia 66

The Florida Gators went to Athens, Ga., as one of the hottest teams in the country. And now, they will return for home as one, too. No. 14 UF dominated on both ends and won easily over Georgia on Wednesday night.

Final score, Florida 86, Georgia 66.

The Gators improve to 18-6 overall, 9-2 in the SEC. They sit atop the league standings and now have won nine of their last 10 games.

Unranked Georgia falls to 17-7, 5-6. When these teams met in Gainesville on Jan. 6, Florida won easily 92-77. In the rematch, it was another blowout.

Florida guard Xaivian Lee led the Gators with 18 points. Another guard, Boogie Fland, added 15. Meanwhile, center Rueben Chinyelu had 20 rebounds for the Gators.

Florida shot 50.8 percent from the floor while holding Georgia to 34.7.

SCORE UPDATE: Florida 77, Georgia 62 (3:15 2H)

Georgia closed to within 72-62 with 4:09 left but Florida guard Xaivian Lee responded with a 3-pointer and another guard, Boogie Fland, followed with a made bucket on the next Gators possession to thwart a little Dawgs rally. It’s not over, but the Gators are in a good spot at the final media timeout.

Georgia cut into the big Florida lead with 3-pointers on two straight possessions. Guard Blue Cain, who leads the Dawgs with 17 points, hit one of them. Georgia now has made 7 3-pointers in 22 attempts. The Gators have 11 turnovers, seven from forward Alex Condon.

UF is on a 17-4 run to open up its largest lead of the game. The Gators are now 9 of 20 from 3-point range. Guard Xaivian Lee leads UF with 13 points but all of them came in the first half. Guard Boogie Fland, who hit a 3-pointer moments ago, has 11.

Both teams are struggling from the field in the second half, but the Gators are maintaining a nice lead. Overall, UF is 18 of 43 from the floor, but only 2 of 10 after the break. Georgia, though, is just 15 of 49 for the game.

After Georgia cut the lead to nine, the Gators responded with a 6-0 run on 3-pointers from forward Thomas Haugh and guard Urban Klavzar. UF had started the second half 0 of 6 from the floor. Center Rueben Chinyelu has 14 rebounds for the Gators.

The Gators just completed a strong first half. They’re shooting 48.5 percent from the field (16-33) and 42.9 percent from beyond the arc (6-14). Meanwhile, they’ve held Georgia to 33.3-percent shooting. Guard Xaivian Lee leads UF with 13 points while center Rueben Chinyelu has 12 rebounds. Gators guard Isaiah Brown has nine points off the bench. Georgia guard Marcus Millender has nine points to lead the Dawgs.

Guard Xaivian Lee leads UF with 10 points and another guard, Isaiah Brown, has nine off the bench. Brown is 3 for 4 from 3-point range. Starting Gators center Rueben Chinyelu has 10 rebounds and UF has a 23-16 edge on the glass. Lee also has a team-high three assists.

The Gators have opened up their largest lead of the game by holding Georgia to 21.7-percent shooting thus far. Guard Xaivian Lee leads UF with eight points.
