Josh Cohen to visit Florida
Josh Cohen is set to visit with Todd Golden and the Florida Gators in Gainesville this weekend.
Cohen told On3’s Joe Tipton he will also be visiting Iowa this weekend. He will revisit with the Penn State Nittany Lions after they made a head coaching change.
The 6-foot-10, 225 pound center is in the transfer portal as a graduate transfer out of St. Francis (PA). He is currently rated as the No. 125 player in the transfer portal.
After entering the transfer portal on March 8, Cohen received attention from schools all over. On3’s Jamie Shaw ranked him as the No. 7 center in the transfer portal as of March 22. Since then, a number of players have entered and left the transfer portal.
His numbers got exponentially better in his time at St. Francis after he redshirted his freshman season. With the redshirt and COVID year, Cohen has two seasons of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer.
This past season, Cohen averaged 21.8 points on 58.5% shooting from the field, 8.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists. His efforts earned him the honors of Northeastern Conference player of the year.
What Cohen brings to the table
With the Gators losing Colin Castleton after he used up all his eligibility, Todd Golden and his staff are fully in the market for his replacement.
Florida going after Cohen makes all the sense in the world as his game features a number of parallels to Castleton’s.

The St. Francis offense, like Florida’s with Castleton, often found Cohen in the low post and simply let him do his thing. Systematically, it’s very clear why Golden is going after the New Jersey native.
His fadeaway and hook shot are lethal with little to no separation from his defender, and he lives on physicality near the rim.
Cohen and the Red Flash faced a number of NCAA Tournament teams this season, and that didn’t seem to be a problem for him. He dropped a cool 30 points on the Miami Hurricanes, a Final Four team, in December.
Replacing Castleton is arguably UF’s top priority this offseason. Although those are some really big shoes to fill, Cohen just might be able to do it.
