The No. 23 Florida Gators (6-4) are playing again in Gainesville on Wednesday for the first time since Nov. 21. Their opponent is a 2-9 Saint Francis (Pa.) team that is winless on the road this season.

Despite its record, UF still is No. 23 in the Net rankings, the NCAA’s primary sorting tool for evaluating teams. Meanwhile, the Red Flash are ranked No. 362 (out of 365), making it arguably the weakest team on the schedule for Todd Golden and Co. this season.

Florida leads the all-time series 1-0. The teams last faced each other in 1994.

Todd Golden on Wednesday’s game

“Feels great to be here (at home) for an extended period of time. The way I look at it, it started when we got back, from sunrise through New Year’s, we have an opportunity to get better. Because of our schedule, the travel and the level of competition, we haven’t had that much time the past couple weeks to work on ourselves. I think that’s really important for us to kind of take that next jump with this group.”

Game notes

* The Gators have played only three home games thus far this season. Now, they’ll play three straight in Gainesville starting Wednesday.

*UF leads all of college basketball in offensive rebounds, at 16.7 a game, and is second nationally in rebounding margin (+13.5) and total rebounds (46.4).

*Senior guard Xaivian Lee is coming off a season-high 24-point outing vs. George Washington. He was 6 of 10 from the floor and 4 of 7 from 3-point range. It was the first time this season the first-year transfer from Princeton has made at least 50 percent of his overall field goals or 50 percent of his 3-point shots. Lee is averaging 16.8 points over his past four games.

*At 10.7 rebounds per game, Rueben Chinyelu is making an early bid to be the first Gator in 50 years to average in double figures on the glass. He has six games with 10+ boards, including a 21-rebound performance vs. Merrimack, the most rebounds by a Gator in 43 years and tied the O’Dome record (Eugene McDowell, 21 vs. Georgia, 1/6/1982).

*UF already has faced eight opponents in the KenPom top 100, the team’s most in regular-season non-conference play since 2017-18. KenPom ranks the Gators as having the eighth-toughest schedule nationally to this point.

*In the one and only previous meeting between these teams, UF won 87-72. Gators guard Dan Cross scored 21 points while center Andrew DeClercq added 12 points and nine rebounds in the win. UF was coming off the program’s first-ever Final Four.
