Florida transfer forward Sam Alexis commits to Indiana
Florida Gators transfer power-forward Sam Alexis was not on the market for long. Alexis, who played in 24 games for the national champions last season but entered the transfer portal April 18, has committed to Indiana, per Joe Tipton of On3.
Alexis, a 6-foot-8, 240-pound junior, just completed his junior season. It was his first with the Gators after transferring from Chattanooga. He averaged 4.7 points and 3.5 rebounds a game while making 46.5 percent of his field goals.
Because of an ankle injury, Alexis played in only one game after Feb. 11. He saw one minute of action in Florida’s Sweet 16 win over Maryland.
Alexis scored in double-figures four times for the Gators, but never against an SEC opponent. His best game with Florida probably was his 14-point, 12-rebound performance in a win last December against North Florida. He did not start any games for UF.

He sustained the injury at Mississippi State on Feb. 11 and had his left foot in a walking boot. After missing seven games with the injury, it looked as if Alexis might return to the court in mid-March. But then he hurt his ankle again in practice.
“He was doing really well, then on Monday we had some guys play 3-on-3 and 4-on-4 and he twisted his ankle again. He missed practice (Tuesday),” Gators coach Todd Golden said March 12. “I’m hopeful we’ll have him. He looked a lot better today. We’ll kind of see how these next 48 hours go before the game to see, for sure.”
Last year, Alexis chose the Gators over Xavier, Mississippi State, Providence and Georgia. He’s a native of Apopka, Fla. “I committed (to Florida) because it was a great fit and has always been a dream to come play for the Gators growing up,” Alexis told On3. “Honestly I’m a UCF guy but the Gators have always been second and it felt like home and I love Coach Golden and the staff.”
