Florida Gators give up four home runs in 8-4 loss to Texas A&M
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — After winning in Friday’s opener, the 12th-ranked Florida Gators dropped their second game against No. 8 Texas A&M with an 8-4 loss on Saturday. UF’s pitching staff gave up four home runs, the most allowed in a game this season.
The Aggies hit dingers off starting pitcher Liam Peterson (1-4) in the third, fourth and fifth innings. He gave up seven hits, five runs and a walk with five strikeouts in 5.0 frames. After the Gators took a 1-0 lead in the second with Blake Cyr’s sixth homer in six games, Texas A&M scored six runs over the next six innings to take control.
UF cut into the deficit with Caden McDonald’s dinger in the fifth and a sac fly by Karson Bowen in the sixth, but Jorian Wilson hit a two-run homer in the eighth to extend the Aggies lead. Jacob Kendall pinch hit in the ninth and had an RBI single, but that’s all the Gators could produce at the plate as they were unable to rally.
The rubber match on Sunday will be at 1 p.m. on SEC Network+.
