Cam Carroll will miss 2023 football season with knee injury
Gainesville, Fla. — Redshirt senior running back Cam Carroll will miss the 2023 football season with a knee injury. Carroll suffered the injury during the Florida Gators scrimmage on Friday and was carted off the field. The Gators were going through their second and final scrimmage of fall camp when Carroll sustained his injury.
Gators running back room without Cam Carroll
The Gators running back room was one of the deepest and most talented on the team. The Gators return more than 1,500 yards and 16 touchdowns in Montrell Johnson and Trevor Etienne. The duo returns to Gainesville as one of the best tandems in the SEC, if not the entire country. Florida’s running backs room was crowded in 2022 but Johnson and Etienne’s emergence led Nay’Quan Wright and Lorenzo Lingard to transfer.

With only one running back signed in the 2023 recruiting class, that left the Gators with just three scholarship running backs. As good as the trio of Jonson, Etienne, and freshman Treyaun Webb can be, a twisted ankle or broken foot would leave the room in dire straights. That led them to take Carroll.
Carroll’s injury makes the late addition of Ja’Kobi Jackson important. Jackson transferred from Coahoma Community College prior to spring camp. Jackson started all nine games for Coahoma last season. He led the team for the second straight season in rushing yards (661), touchdowns (7), and average yards per game (73.44). He also averaged 5.2 yards per carry.
