Jalil Bethea injury update: Alabama guard undergoes surgery

Alabama basketball guard Jalil Bethea suffered a foot injury in practice and underwent surgery to repair the issue, Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats announced on Sunday, Sept. 21.

“Jalil Bethea injured his left foot during practice this week, which required surgery to repair,” Oats said, via Yea Alabama. “The procedure was performed by Dr. Norman Waldrop with Andrews Sports Medicine on Friday, Sept. 19, in Birmingham.

“While there is no timetable for Bethea’s return, we do not anticipate this injury is season-ending, and we expect him to return this year.”

Bethea joined the Alabama men’s basketball program this summer after transferring from Miami. As a freshman in 2024-25, Bethea averaged 7.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 36.8 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from behind the 3-point line.

The 6-foot-5 guard is a former McDonald’s All-American looking for a fresh start at Alabama, but that will have to wait while Bethea begins the recovery process from his preseason injury.

Other guards on the Crimson Tide’s 2025-26 men’s basketball roster include Labaron Philon, Aden Holloway, Latrell Wrightsell, Houston Mallette and true freshman Davion Hannah.
