Florida State adds big bat of four-star catcher Layna Ayala
The Noles have picked up their biggest commitment of the 2027 class thus far. Layna Ayala, the powerful four-star catcher and Softball America’s 19th-ranked overall recruit, announced her pledge to Florida State.
“I picked FSU because of the care and support I have received since attending my first FSU camp. It felt like home, and the coaching staff is truly amazing. I am excited to be a Nole,” Ayala said.

Ayala, who had a breakout summer with Fury Platinum X-Hutchins, hits a ton of home runs. She has one of the strongest and most powerful swings in the class. She is a pure hitter with the ability to put balls on the fence in multiple parts of the zone. Ayala put up some monster numbers offensively at the next level.
The Florida native is Florida State’s second commitment of the 2027 class, but they’ve had numerous visitors. Ayala also had strong interest from South Carolina, Texas and Florida.
