How former Mountaineers performed in NFL Week 16
Nine former West Virginia football players saw action for their respective teams in the NFL’s Week 16 slate of games. The lineman carried the mountaineer’s weight while a defensive player saw his worst performance of the season.
Here’s a breakdown of how they played and were graded by PFF.
Around the league
Wyatt Milum, G
Milum seems to be finding his footing with an 87.4 grade in 10 snaps as an inline tight end. He is used mostly in the run scheme, totaling nine running snaps and one in pas protection. The rookie has now recorded a snap in six consecutive games for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
McKivitz allowed two quarterback pressures, leading to hurries, but his stellar blocking allowed the San Francisco 49ers to total 440 yards of offense in the 48-27 win over the Indianapolis Colts of Monday night. He was the ninth-ranked offensive lineman around the league with an 85.7 grade this week
Rasul Douglas, CB
Douglas played in all 61 of the Miami Dolphins’ defensive snaps, recording a team-high 83.1 grade. He made four tackles, along with only allowing 23 yards on three receptions. This earned Douglas the eighth-graded cornerback around the league with an 83 grade.
Austin Brinkman, LS
The Houston Texans’ long snapper made his first tackle of the season, leading to his highest grade of the season at 73.3. With 10 snaps, Brinkman split five snaps between kick attempts and punts in a 23-21 win against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Geno Smith, QB
Smith improved his play after four consecutive weeks being graded under 60. This week, Smith completed 69.6% of his passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns, while throwing an interception in the loss against the Texans.
Frazier played in all 74 of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive snaps and did not allow a single pressure on the quarterback. He was graded the best in the run game at 66, as the Steelers rushed for 230 yards in a 29-24 win against the Detroit Lions.
After three consecutive weeks of totaling more than 58 plays, Sills saw a decrease in his snap count to 32. He saw 14 passing and 18 running snaps. After a season-high six receptions last week, Sills did not make a catch on target in the Atlanta Falcons’ 26-19 win against the Arizona Cardinals.
Rex Sunahara, LS
A missed tackle led Sunahara to his lowest grade of the season at 46.4. Sunahara totaled six snaps with two punts and four kick attempts. The Clevland Brows suffered a 23-20 defeat against the Cleveland Browns.
Dante Stills, DT
In 35 snaps, Stills was the worst graded Cardinals defender at 29.9. This was also Stills’ lowest grade of the season, as it was the only time he did not record a tackle or pressure on the quarterback. He did miss one tackle.
