CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Virginia High School League announces its 2025 Class 4 All-State Football Team. Varina junior quarterback Kaleb Wyche is the Class 4 Offensive Player of the Year, and Varina junior defensive lineman JaySean Richardson is the Class 4 Defensive Player of the Year.  Varina Head Coach Marcus Lewis is the Class 4 Coach of the Year.

A First Team All-state selection as the offense all-purpose player as a sophomore, the 5’10”, 165-pound Wyche passed for 2,520 yards, completing 72% of his passes (215 attempts/154 completions), 33 touchdowns (five 2-point conversions), averaging 12.6 yards per attempt, and 18.0 yards per completion.

A dual-threat, Wyche rushed for 1,223 yards on 124 carries (10.6 avg.) and 18 TDs. He finished the season with 3,743 yards in total offense, becoming the first player in Varina history to throw for over 2,000 yards and rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season while producing 51 touchdowns.

Chosen 1st Team All-State for the third straight year and the Class 4 Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season, the 6’1”, 295-pound Richardson tallied 74 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery this season, leading a Varina that shutout opponents five times and 7.3 points per game. The stout University of Virginia signee finished his Blue Devils career with 237 career tackles, 71 tackles for loss, and 33 sacks.

Head Coach Marcus Lewis led Varina to a 13-2 record, claiming the program’s second state title since 2021.  The Blue Devils won 47-0 over Loudoun County in the State Shampionship game.

Now in his sixth season as Head Coach, Lewis has established Varina Football as one of the state’s premier programs. He owns a 62–12 career record. Lewis has guided Blue Devils to three regional Championships, three State Championship game appearances, and two state titles (2021, 2025). The 2025 Varina defense, regarded as the best in program history, allowed just 7.3 points per game and set a new standard for defensive excellence for the Blue Devils.
