Keenon Verkerk eyeing future with Georgia

Class of 2028 offensive lineman Keenon Verkerk is already turning heads early in his high school career, and his growing relationship with Georgia is quickly becoming one of the most intriguing storylines in his recruitment.

The McEachern High School left tackle, who already has an offer from the Bulldogs, is beginning to build a strong foundation with the in-state powerhouse as he navigates the early stages of the recruiting process.

Verkerk’s connection with Georgia began last summer when he received an offer from former offensive line coach Stacy Searels. For a young prospect growing up in the Peach State, the moment carried weight.

“I was excited, man. I grew up here, so it’s like a dream,” Verkerk recently told UGASport. “It’s something you wait for as you’re growing up. So it’s always a blessing.”

Despite the early recognition, Verkerk remains focused on development.

“I’m never going to be satisfied. I always have to keep working,” he added.

After the offer, Verkerk returned to Athens several times for home games at Sanford Stadium last season.

Developing a new connection

Verkerk recently had the opportunity to meet new offensive line coach Phil Rauscher when Rauscher visited his school.

The 6-foot-8, 335-pound offensive lineman is eager to continue developing that connection when he returns to Athens for an upcoming visit.

“He came up to my school, and I kind of spoke to him a little bit,” Verkerk said. “When I get back up there in Georgia, I’ll definitely create more of a relationship with him.”

That visit is a priority for Verkerk, who wants a closer look at the program’s day-to-day operations.

“I just want to get back down there again, see how everybody works, how everybody practices, get a better glimpse of the environment,” he said.

Development is key

Georgia’s reputation for developing elite offensive linemen is a major factor in his interest.

The Bulldogs have consistently produced NFL-level talent, something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by the young tackle.

“It’s insane,” Verkerk said of Georgia’s offensive line production. “They’re one of the best O-line programs out here. Georgia is definitely one of them.”

He specifically pointed to former Bulldogs like Broderick Jones and Amarius Mims as players he studies, admiring their work ethic and development within the program.

“They just work,” he said. “I’m a guy that’s trying to get somewhere where I can work and have a good program—great O-line coaching, just across the board.”

What’s next?

Currently, Verkerk is focused on locking down the left tackle position at McEachern as he continues to adjust to the varsity level. While he hasn’t yet rotated along the offensive line, his size and potential suggest versatility could come with time.

For now, his mindset remains simple: keep improving and build relationships with programs that prioritize development.

With an offer already in hand and another visit to Athens on the horizon, Verkerk’s connection with Georgia is only continuing to grow. He told UGASports that he will return to campus this spring for a practice visit.
