UConn Football QB Joe Fagnano accepts trio of All-Star Bowl Invites

by: Jarrett Guerrera12/18/25JarrettGuerrera

Following a historic season with the UConn football team, quarterback Joe Fagnano will play a different kind of bowl game. The talented quarterback previously opted out of the Wasabi Fenway Bowl against the Army Black Knights. Star wide receiver Skyler Bell joined Fagnano in opting out of the bowl game.

However, Fagnano will participate in three all-star bowls held in conjunction with professional scouts from multiple leagues.

Fagnano was nothing short of amazing for the Huskies this season with 3,448 passing yards, 28 passing touchdowns, and a completion percentage of 69%. The quarterback was incredibly efficient, cracking the 70% completion mark in seven games. Fagnano finished the year with the seventh-most passing yards and touchdowns in the FBS.

The quarterback did not start his collegiate career with UConn, however, after spending four seasons with Maine. Fagnano committed to the Huskies in the transfer portal due to his connection with Jim Mora, the previous head coach. At the end of last season, Fagnano considered retiring but was brought back with the help of Mora.

Historically speaking, Fagnano will go down in the books as one of the best quarterbacks the program has seen. Fagnano has the second-most passing touchdowns (48) and the most touchdowns per pass attempt (7.3%) in program history. Fagnano is also the only quarterback in program history with over 400 pass attempts and less than ten interceptions.

Fagnano Opts Into All-Star Bowls Over Fenway Bowl

Fagnano and Bell have already opted out of the Fenway Bowl with UConn. However the duo will likely stay active with all-star bowls, or senior bowls, in front of professional scouts.

Despite national recognition after being considered early for the Davey O’Brien Award, Fagnano still has plenty to prove on the field. The quarterback has accepted invites to the East-West Shrine Bowl, American Bowl, and the Hula Bowl which all take place in January. Earning and accepting multiple invites is not unheard of, but receiving such recognition is a big honor.

For Fagnano, sitting out of the Fenway Bowl will create more time to prepare for the all-star bowls. Players often do not play the entirety of the games, but the performance on the field is also not always the most important factor.

All-star bowls are supported by professional scouts who tend to conduct interviews during the events. The interviews are a crucial part of the draft process that are otherwise hard to access. With Fagnano accepting three opportunities to play in front of and meet with professional scouts, the potential of making a good impression increases greatly.
