Wake Forest downs Clemson 15-4 in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Wake Forest scored three runs in the first inning, four runs in the third inning and seven runs in the sixth inning in its 15-4 victory over Clemson in a non-conference game at Truist Field on Wednesday night.

The game lasted seven innings due to the 10-run rule. The Demon Deacons improved to 21-9, while the Tigers fell to 19-11.

The Demon Deacons plated three runs on two hits in the first inning, then the Tigers responded with a run in the top of the third inning on Jack Crighton’s fielder’s choice.

Wake Forest answered with four runs in the bottom of the third inning and a run in the fourth inning to build an 8-1 lead.

In the fifth inning, Clemson scored three runs on Tryston McCladdie’s leadoff homer, his eighth of the year, Bryce Clavon’s run-scoring single and Luke Gaffney’s RBI groundout.

In the sixth inning, Wake Forest scored seven runs, capped by Javar Williams’ grand slam.

Every Demon Deacon starter had at least one hit, as Wake Forest totaled 14 hits in the game. Clavon led Clemson with three hits. The Tigers totaled eight hits.

Marcelo Harsch (1-0) earned the win by tossing 2.2 innings in relief, while Tiger starter Dylan Harrison (1-1) suffered the loss. Harrison allowed two hits, a walk and three earned runs in 0.2 IP.

Clemson used eight pitchers on the evening. Noah Samol (1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K), Eston Simpson (1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER), Nick Frusco (1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 K), Landon Fowler (1 IP, 1 H, 1 K), Ariston Veasey (0 IP, 1 H, 4 ER, 2 BB), Danny Nelson (0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 1 BB) and Peyton Miller (0.1 IP, 1 K) all saw action.
