Rutgers Women’s Basketball’s roster exodus will continue with a new coaching staff in place.

Junior forward Janae Walker will enter the transfer portal after two seasons in Piscataway for her final year of eligibility, as reported by On3’s Talia Goodman. Walker originally transferred in after spending her freshman season at Kentucky.

In her two years as a Scarlet Knight, Walker averaged 1.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, with a small jump in productivity this past season.

The transfer portal window will officially open on April 6th. Walker becomes the fifth player to enter or express intent to enter the portal.

Walker’s background

The 6-foot-3 forward originally came to Rutgers with three years of eligibility remaining under the former coaching staff.

She played spot minutes for much of the 2024-25 season, averaging 8.6 minutes per game over 28 games, with a veteran frontcourt set in stone as Destiny Adams and Chyna Cornwell returned for their senior seasons. She averaged 0.8 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.

Without Cornwell and Adams, Walker took a step up in role and productivity. She started 17 games as she and incoming transfer Imani Lester made up the team’s frontcourt depth. Walker averaged 2.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game as a junior, while setting career highs in points (nine, November 3rd vs Wagner) and rebounds (ten, November 13th vs Rhode Island). Her playing time dwindled down the stretch as the Scarlet Knights struggled badly in Big Ten play with just one win.

She originally chose Rutgers over BYU and Colorado.

Walker did not have much of a role for the Wildcats even after playing in 28 games during her true freshman season, averaging 0.9 ppg and 1.3 rpg in seven minutes per game. She showed some promise as a rim protector, leading Kentucky in blocks four times. The Tyrone, Georgia native averaged 20.3 points and 14.8 rebounds per game in her senior season at Sandy Creek High School, on the way to a GHSA Region 5 Championship.
