Four Red Raiders named AP All-Americans

It was announced on Monday that Jacob Rodriguez, David Bailey, A.J. Holmes, and Lee Hunter were named AP All-Americans. Rodriguez and Bailey were first team selections, Holmes a second team selection, and Hunter on the third team.

Rodriguez was the Big 12 Preseason Defensive Player of the year and the Big 12 Defensive Player of the year, along with being a first team All-Big 12 selection. He is also the winner of the Bronko Nagurski Award, the Lombardi Award, the Butkus Award, and the Chuck Bednarik Award. He was selected as a 1st-team All-American by CBS Sports, The Athletic, PFF, and On3. Rodriguez and Bailey were also awarded the Pony Express Award.

Bailey was the Big 12 Defensive Lineman and Defensive Newcomer of the year, and was also a unanimous first team All-Big 12 selection. He was also a finalist for the Lombardi Award, making two Red Raiders finalists for the award. Bailey was selected as a 1st team All-American by CBS Sports, The Athletic, PFF, and On3.

Holmes was a third team All-Big 12 selection, and Hunter was a first team All-Big 12 selection. This was the first season for both defensive linemen, with Holmes coming from Houston and Hunter from UCF. Holmes was selected as a PFF All-American, and Hunter was selected as a 1st team All-American by The Athletic and a second-team All-American by CBS Sports.

What’s Next?

The Red Raiders will play in the Orange Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Texas Tech will play the winner of James Madison and Oregon, who meet on Saturday at 6:30 pm in Eugene, Oregon. The winner of the Orange Bowl will advance to the CFP Semifinals and play in the Peach Bowl.
