Pitt football added to its roster for the 2026 with a local WPIAL walk-on commitment.

Mars offensive lineman Sean Franklin announced Thursday on X that he has committed to Pitt.

Franklin, who stands at 6-foot-6, 290 pounds and primarily played left tackle at Mars, initially picked up a preferred walk-on offer from position coach Jeremy Darveau and the Panthers back on Nov. 9.

The WPIAL prospect spent plenty of time around the Pitt program in recent years. He camped at Pitt both in 2024 and 2025, while taking gameday visits for the Boston College and Notre Dame games this fall.

Franklin is a three-time First-Team All-Conference selection and was named to the 2025 Class 4A All-State Football Team. At Mars, Franklin played under head coach Eric Kasperowicz, who played at Pitt as a linebacker and then later served as a volunteer assistant coach during the 2021 season.

Along with the interest from Pitt, Franklin held Division I offers from Yale, New Hampshire, Columbia, Maine and Miami (OH).

Franklin becomes the first high school walk-on to join the 2026 Pitt recruiting class that features 21 commits and four players from the WPIAL — defensive end Reston Lehman (Peters Township), safety Da’Ron Barksdale (Steel Valley), offensive lineman John Curran (Pine-Richland) and defensive tackle Lincoln Hoke (North Allegheny).
