Pitt RB Commit Tyler Reid Transfers to Florida HS Powerhouse
Pitt football running back commit Tyler Reid will play his final season of high school football at a Florida powerhouse before joining the Panthers in 2027.
Reid, the younger brother of former Pitt running back and all-purpose All-American playmaker Desmond, played the last three seasons at Miramar High School just outside of Miami.
On Monday, he announced via X that he is transferring to St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) for the 2026 season and school year.
Reid, who stands at 5-8, 165 pounds, is a three-star prospect and the No. 30 running back in the 2027 class. Last fall, Reid totaled 104 carries for 1,070 all-purpose yards and nine touchdowns.
Miramar went 4-7 last year. Reid will now attend one of the top high school football programs in the country. St. Thomas Aquinas finished with a 15-1 record in 2025 as the Raiders captured another FHSAA 5A state title. The Raiders have a Florida record 17 state championships. St. Thomas Aquinas was the No. 8 high school football program in the country, per the Rivals National 2025 High School Football Composite Rankings.
The Pitt football program has a strong history of recruiting St. Thomas Aquinas. Current defensive tackle Trevor Sommers and safety Allen Bryant played for the Raiders, while former running back Daniel Carter and defensive back Jahvonte Royal also attended the school.
Pitt offensive coordinator Kade Bell started recruiting Reid while he was still coaching Western Carolina. Bell then offered Reid once he was apart of the Pitt staff, and the young running back committed in March of last year. Bell continues to recruit Reid hard as he spent two hours on an in-home visit with Tyler and Desmond last week.
Reid is one of four commits in the 2027 Pitt recruiting class alongside three-star quarterback Kevin Verpaele, three-star offensive lineman Colin Urrea and three-star wide receiver Jacob Thomas.
