Game Report: Riordan completes undefeated season; wins first WCAL title since 2000

The start couldn’t have gone much worse for Riordan. Playing in an energized environment at Serra, Riordan went three and out and threw an interception on its first two drives. They were at a decided disadvantage in field position and Serra raced out to a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Then, the Crusaders scored touchdowns on five of the next seven drives in earning a 42-35 win to cap a 10-0 regular season.

Riordan running back Adonyae Brown, who was battling through injuries, ran for three touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass. Michael Michell Jr. also threw two touchdowns to Cynai Thomas.

Serra running back Iziah Singleton had three rushing touchdowns and freshman quarterback William Orr was able to hit a handful of big plays, including a 36 yard touchdown throw to Charles Walsh.

Both teams will be in the CCS Open/Division I playoffs with a potential playoff rematch.

Player to Watch: Riordan’s Skylar Tiatia is one of the NorCal’s top linebackers

Riordan linebacker Skylar Tiatia (San Jose State) has good size at 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds, but also has the athleticism to make plays on the edges. He tracks the ball well, is a good tackler in space and can play in coverage.

He had 50 tackles, three sacks and an interception through nine games. Against Pittsburg, he registered nine tackles, a sack and an interception.

JUCO Spotlight: Diablo Valley stays hot against San Francisco

Diablo Valley College led San Francisco 34-7 en route to a 34-21 to move into a first place tie in the National – Bay 6 Division. Ferrari Miller had 140 total yards and two touchdowns and Jurrion Dickey had five catches for 77 yards.

Video Evidence: King City wins its first league title since 1983

King City beat Stevenson 42-28 on Thursday to improve to 9-1 and win its first league title in more than 40 years. Quarterback Rocky Vasquez threw for three touchdowns in the win.

Reading Recommendation: San Jose headed to the CCS Playoffs
It isn’t an article, but a tweet with historical perspective. San Jose beat Mt. Pleasant 38-0 to reach the CCS Playoffs for the first time in school history dating back to 1863. Previously, San Jose would play Lincoln-San Jose in the Big Bone Game on Thanksgiving.
