Owen Roberts walked away from his recent visit to Kansas with better vision of the Jayhawks program and he is about to see things in more detail.

The 6-foot-4, 235 pound defensive end from York High said the overall environment stood out right away, from the facilities to the way the program operates. It was his first look at the Jayhawks, and it gave him a better feel for how he might fit into the system.

“My visit to Kansas was good,” Roberts said. “I could tell they’re building something different. The facilities were great, and it felt comfortable. I liked being around the players and coaches and seeing how they interact, it could be a place where I could fit in and develop.”

Roberts spent time around the coaching staff, including defensive ends coach Joe Dineen. The visit allowed him to observe how the coaches teach and how players respond watching practice.

“Coach Dineen has incredible energy, and I love his coaching style,” Roberts said. “He was a great player at KU, so he is invested in their success. All the coaches were welcoming, and I liked the practice style. Loved practice, especially the tempo and reps.”

The visit also included a personal connection that added another layer to the experience. Roberts’ father previously coached Jimmy Le at Kent-Meridian High School in Washington, and Le is now on the Kansas staff as the Director of Football Video. The opportunity to reconnect and see that relationship come full circle stood out.

“Coach Jimmy Le played for my dad at Kent-Meridian High School in Washington state,” Roberts said. “We got to spend time together and relive their time together at KM. Really great to see his success at KU.”

Kansas has already extended an offer, and Roberts will return to campus this weekend for his official visit. That trip will give him a closer look at the program and more time to connect with players.

“I’m looking forward to interacting with players and spending more time with coaches,” Roberts said.

Roberts has been active on the recruiting trail throughout the spring, taking visits across the country. He credited his family for helping him experience different programs and environments as he begins to narrow down his list.

“I’ve been blessed to see many schools this spring,” Roberts said. “My parents have been willing to go all over the country to make sure I get all types of experiences. I have OVs set with KU, KSU, Illinois, Vanderbilt, and Purdue.”

As the process continues, Roberts said his decision will come down to development, opportunity, and fit both on and off the field.

“I’m looking for a good education, the opportunity to contribute and be developed, and the right team chemistry,” Roberts said.
