Tre Lamb‘s Tulsa Football coaching staff took a couple hits after the 2025 season, as Power 4 teams snatched away offensive coordinator Brad Robbins (TCU) and running backs coach Kam Martin (Florida State).

However, Lamb has recently made significant additions to his coaching staff, announcing Kevin Barbay as the new Offensive Coordinator on January 10, 2026, and Cam Haney as Cornerbacks Coach on January 22, 2026. These hires aim to enhance both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, bringing experienced coaches with proven track records to the Golden Hurricane.

Kevin Barbay named Offensive Coordinator

Kevin Barbay, a seasoned offensive strategist, joins Tulsa after serving as an offensive analyst at the University of Kentucky in 2025. Prior to that, he held the role of offensive coordinator at Houston in 2024 and at Mississippi State in 2023.

“I’m thrilled to bring Kevin on board and witness how he’ll transform our offense,” said Lamb. “His expertise in building explosive attacks, including units that ranked in the national top 25, will introduce fresh concepts to push our team forward.”

Barbay has earned acclaim for developing potent offenses. Over five years at Mississippi State (2023), Appalachian State (2022), and Central Michigan (2019-21), his teams notched 31 games with 30+ points and 19 contests exceeding 500 total yards. In the 2021-22 seasons, his offenses averaged 448 yards per game, placing them among the nation’s top 20.

At Appalachian State in 2022, Barbay’s unit excelled nationally, averaging 34.9 points per game (top 25 in scoring), boasting a 155.80 passer rating, and rushing for 204.42 yards per game. The team also ranked eighth in the country with 21 plays of 40+ yards.

During his 2021 stint at Central Michigan, Barbay’s offense averaged 440.7 yards per game while mentoring running back Lew Nichols III, who led the nation with 1,848 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. He also contributed to the growth of offensive linemen Luke Goedeke and Bernhard Raimann, both drafted into the NFL in 2022.

Barbay’s coaching journey includes stops at Stephen F. Austin (2018, as offensive coordinator), Florida (2015-17, director of player development), Colorado State (2014, director of player personnel), and Lamar (2012-13, wide receivers and special teams coach). At Stephen F. Austin, his passing game ranked 29th in the FCS.

Cam Haney joins as Cornerbacks Coach; Franks elevated

In a move to bolster the secondary, Cam Haney has been added as Cornerbacks Coach, with Dominique Franks elevated to Pass Game Coordinator and Nickels Coach.

“I’m eager to welcome Cam to the team and observe his influence on our defensive backs,” Lamb stated. “His experience in grooming secondary players, emphasizing technique, discipline, and poise, will be invaluable in strengthening our defense.”

Haney arrives from Indiana University, where he served as a Defensive Quality Control Coach in 2025, aiding the Hoosiers in capturing their first-ever NCAA National Championship. Indiana’s defense recorded 19 interceptions and 50 pass breakups that season.

Before Indiana, Haney coached defensive backs at East Tennessee State (ETSU) in 2024, where the Bucs tallied five interceptions and 49 pass breakups, led by Cam Sims’ 17 breakups.

Haney spent three years at Murray State (2021-23), coaching cornerbacks in 2023 — his inaugural full-time role — after two seasons as a defensive graduate assistant. His defensive backs amassed 14 interceptions and nearly 80 pass breakups during that period.

As a player, Haney competed at Utah State, recording 28 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and 110 tackles. In high school at Cathedral High School, he earned CIF All-State honors as a senior.

Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Haney graduated from Utah State in 2019 with a bachelor’s in communications and earned a master’s from Murray State in 2023.

These strategic hires reflect Tulsa’s commitment to building a competitive program under Coach Lamb, blending offensive innovation with defensive prowess for the upcoming seasons.
