Geneva (Ill) junior quarterback recruit Ben Peterson (6-foot-4, 205 pounds) has given Eastern Michigan University Eagles his verbal commitment. Peterson announced his decision just minutes ago on his X accounr and discusses his college decision here.

“We had the Eastern Michigan coaches here for an in home visit a few nights ago for dinner,” Peterson said. “I had been thinking pretty much all about EMU ever since I made a spring visit. EMU has been the team to beat for me ever since that visit. I gave the EMU coaches my decision at dinner and I’m very happy and excited about my decision.”

Eastern Michigan made a strong early impression

Peterson pointed towards some key factors which led to his commitment.

“Eastern Michigan was just always in touch and always showing a lot of interest in me. When I made a spring practice visit to EMU everything was great on that visit and they really impressed me. EMU just has a great coaching staff led by Coach (Chris) Creighton. The people at Eastern Michigan are all just genuine good people. The more I looked into other schools the more I was comparing everyone else to EMU. Eastern Michigan is a strong program playing in a great conference in the MAC. Every season they play great teams in the non conference schedule. I’ll get to compete at the highest level for a great program. My older brother(Will Peterson) plays for Western Michigan. I guess we are going to have3 a nice family rivalry game for the next few years.”

So who else did he consider before making his college choice?

“It really came down to either Eastern Michigan or South Dakota. South Dakota made a big push for me. I was able to make some great relationship with the South Dakota coaches as well. They also had a lot to offer. In the end I just felt like EMU was the place for me. It was not an easy phone call to make to let the South Dakota coaches know about my decision. I felt they deserved to know my decision before it became public.”

What are the EMU Eagles getting in Peterson

So what are the EMU Eagles fans getting in Ben Peterson?

“Eastern Michigan is getting someone who is a hard worker and someone who will grind day in and day out. I’m now one of the leaders on the team and in this recruiting class. It’s my job to go out and help us bring in more great players. I’m excited to get going and just very excited about my commitment to Eastern Michigan.”

Peterson is also thrilled to have made his college decision.

“It’s a big weight off my shoulders. I can just focus on myn team this summer and get ready to lead my team to a state title.”

Ben Peterson is verbally committed to Eastern Michigan University.
