Micah Mays Jr. announces transfer plan
WINSTON-SALEM – About 24 hours after Jake Dickert talked about Wake Forest’s need to rebuild its receiver room, another one announced plans to transfer.
Micah Mays Jr. will leave the Deacons, he announced via Twitter on Tuesday.
Mays has started 13 games across the past two seasons (nine in 2024, four this past season). He had 18 catches for 302 yards and two touchdowns this past season, missing two games in November with an injury and only playing one snap in the regular-season finale at Duke.
He is the second significant departure from Wake’s receiver corps, as leading receiver Chris Barnes announced over the weekend that he would be transferring.
“Right now, we’re going to need to rebuild the receiver room,” Dickert said on Monday, that being the first part of an answer about where his staff was looking for additions in the transfer portal.
“Kind of knew we’d do that a little bit going into it,” he continued, “but we’ve gotta hit the gas pedal on that and find the right guys.”
Dickert added that he’s excited about the four wide receivers who signed earlier this month, and that three of them will enroll for the spring semester. Wake’s four incoming freshman receivers are Walker Bryson, Kobe Adeleke-Hokes, Devin Goldston and Elijah Otieno.
The 6-2, 196-pound Mays has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He cannot enter the transfer portal until Jan. 2.
And in related Jan. 2 news, based on what Dickert said Monday, Mays won’t play for the Deacons that night in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl against Mississippi State.
