Louisville forward Sananda Fru plans to enter the transfer portal
University of Louisville big man Sananda Fru will enter the NCAA transfer portal, Cardinal Sports has confirmed.
The news was first reported by Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress.
The 6-foot-10 junior started 29 games in his lone season with the Cardinals, averaging a team-best 6.1 rebounds but only posting 9.0 points in over 22 minutes a contest. With most of his attempts from the field coming around the basket, Fru shot 75.3 percent from the field and 61.1 percent from the foul line. The Berlin, Germany, native made four of his eight attempts from beyond the arc. He did end up finishing the season as one of the most efficient players around the rim on both ends of the floor, with the second-best 2-point percentage in all of college basketball and the fourth-best block rate in the ACC.
Fru joined Louisville after spending the 2024-25 regular season with Basketball Lowen Braunschweig (Basketball Bundesliga – Division 1 in Germany). There, he averaged 12.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.6 blocks.
After getting off a solid start to his college career, scoring in double-figures in seven out of Louisville’s first 10 games, Fru struggled to match the physicality of teams with dominant frontcourt players. The German notched just three double-doubles after the start of the new year, coming against Boston College, Virginia Tech, and South Florida. Fru’s best game of the season may have come in the NCAA Tournament win over the Bulls. He posted 10 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks in 25 minutes off the bench as Louisville won its first tournament game in nine years.
The Cardinals are already tasked with reshaping a coaching staff that has seen two departures in Thomas Carr and Brian Kloman, not to mention replacing eight graduating seniors.
Fru is the first of four Louisville players eligible to return to the roster next fall to announce his offseason plans. He will have one year of NCAA eligibility remaining. The transfer portal does not officially open until April 7.
