University of Louisville men’s basketball has dropped in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll for the second time in three weeks.

The Cardinals went 1-1 over the week to close out the season’s non-conference schedule, including a 40-point win over Montana in the final home game of 2025. Last Tuesday, Louisville did have one of its most disappointing losses of the Pat Kelsey era, an 83-62 loss at No. 19 Tennessee.

Louisville will now enter the ACC schedule as the No. 16 team in the country.

The Cards will get 10 days of rest before heading to the Bay Area and playing both California and Stanford in a five-day span. The Golden Bears are one of the surprise teams in the conference and have suffered just one loss, while Stanford has also improved from a year ago.

Along with the U of L, three other ACC teams crack the updated poll. Duke is the highest-ranked team in the conference at No. , but just lost to Texas Tech. North Carolina continues to rise throughout a competitive non-conference. Also in polls at No. 21 is Virginia,

Louisville will take this winter break period to get healthier. Star freshman point guard Mikel Brown Jr. missed both games last week with a lower back injury, and his backup, Kobe Rodgers, was out against Montana with a concussion.

Kelsey’s Cards will take on Cal on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 9 PM EST.
