On Wednesday, Stanford redshirt junior cornerback Collin Wright declared for the 2026 NFL Draft, announcing the news on social media. Below is the full statement that Wright put out:

Dear Stanford Family,

I’d like to first thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for getting me to this point and being with me every stay of the way. I’d also like to thank my family for their continuous support and for believing in my dreams unconditionally. Specifically, my parents and my big brother who made me into the man I am today. Without them, none of this would be possible.

I want to thank all the coaches who have supported me throughout this journey. Thank you to Coach Shaw and Coach Akina for bringing me to this special place, and to Coach Williams for grooming me into the player I am today.

To Stanford University, I am incredibly grateful for the experiences and the people I’ve met along the way. I have so much love for this university and thank everyone who pushed me to be the best version of myself every day. Being named a captain will forever be one of my greatest honors, and I am thankful to have been trusted and chosen as a leader amongst my peers. I’ve truly been able to live out my dream, and I am proud to have learned what it means to be a Stanford man for life.

It is an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to pursue a lifelong dream of mine. With that being said, I have decided to declare for the 2026 NFL Draft. While I am excited for this next chapter, I am forever grateful for the experience of a lifetime at such a special place.

Let’s Do It!

Collin Wright

I remember when Collin Wright committed to Stanford. He was a 3-star recruit out of Manvel High School in Manvel, Texas as part of the Cardinal’s 2022 recruiting class. He has improved so much from when he first got to Stanford. He redshirted his true freshman year, playing in four games while totaling five tackles (four solo) and 1.5 tackles for loss. As a redshirt freshman, he balled out, totaling 61 tackles (43 solo), 5.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks, and one interception.

As a redshirt sophomore, he had the most interceptions he had of his career with three while also having 45 total tackles (32 solo) and 2.5 tackles for loss. As a redshirt junior this past season, he was a bit banged up, playing in only nine games, but had 33 total tackles (25 solo), 1.0 tackles for loss, and one interception, a pick six in the 30-20 win over Boston College.

The news of Wright declaring for the NFL Draft is not a surprise. Everything I was hearing pointed to this happening after the season. He’s got a legit chance to get drafted while also finishing up his Stanford studies. He really has no reason to return if he’s able to perform well in workouts and the combine.

As far as where he goes, I think he’s a guy who could go as high as the 5th round with the chance of having to go the route of being an undrafted free agent. 5th round to undrafted is where I think he lands. Once again, a lot of it will come down to how his workouts go. He’s got good size at 6’1”, 186 pounds and has shown an ability to be good in coverage while also tackling. Ideally, he’d have more interceptions, but a lot of that I think is due to teams not wanting to throw to his side of the field.

Personally, I feel like Wright is just as good of a prospect as current Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly was when he came out of Stanford. Kelly was drafted in the 5th round by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2023 NFL Draft. I think Kelly is a pretty good model for where Wright can be expected to go. Hopefully Wright is able to talk with Kelly about the draft process as I think he’d be a good resource for him.

Overall, it’s exciting for Wright to get this chance. He’s worked extremely hard and been a classy representative of the Stanford program during his time on The Farm. It’ll be fun to see where he lands and what kind of impact he makes at the next level.
