Spanaway (Wash.) Bethel linebacker Ramzak Fruean has committed to Washington and talked about his decision.

Fruean was an early UCLA commit but backed off following the dismissal of former head coach DeShaun Foster. He narrowed his choices to also include Arizona and BYU but the Huskies were always the team to beat.

“Washington is the hometown school for me,” Fruean said. “I liked the idea of being able to play in front of my family and so they can come to all my home games.

“I can be the hometown kid at Washington and show that the best in Washington play for Washington so I’m excited about my decision.”

Fruean took official visits to his final three before choosing the Huskies.

“Washington was my most recent visit and I loved it there,” Fruean said. “It just felt like home and my  comfort level is very strong there so I love the fit.”

Fruean is an intriguing linebacker prospect and one of the most versatile defensive players out West. He plays a lot of safety at the high school level and shows plenty of range and athleticism.

He projects as an outside ‘backer at the next level but you love to see the easy fluidity and how well he moves and plays in space.

With an athletic 6-foot-4, 210 pound frame, Fruean actually looks lean and has a ton of room to grow and add good weight.

He’s a big hitter who flashes knock-back ability and we really like where his game is trending. It won’t shock us if he even plays some as an edge rusher in certain situations and his ceiling is very high.
