Penn State offers newly-decommitted Rivals300 WR Tyren Wortham

Earlier this week, Sarasota (Fla.) Booker four-star wide receiver Tyren Wortham backed off his commitment to Michigan State. Schools have been in hot pursuit of the blue-chipper and he’s now weighing his options once again with the early signing period less than two months out.

On Friday, Wortham announced his first offer since coming back on the board. Penn State has jumped in the mix for the 6-foot pass-catcher.

The Nittany Lions already have three receivers in their top-20 recruiting class, but Wortham would be quite the worthy addition. He noted that his recruitment is “100-percent open,” but there are programs that are already in full throttle with equity in his process.

Auburn and UCF are the two making their voices heard the most with Wortham, he told Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett after decommitting from the Spartans. He previously flipped his commitment from UCF this summer and the Knights haven’t gone away. Auburn is set to have him on campus for an official visit next weekend.

“I want to go do my job and get on the field right now,” Wortham told Fawcett when asked what he’s looking for in his next school. “I also want to have great coaching.”

Wortham is the No. 246 overall prospect in the 2026 class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 42 wide receiver and No. 33 player in the Sunshine State.

Rivals, however, is even higher on him than both ESPN and 247Sports. In the most recent Rivals300 rankings, Wortham was tabbed as the country’s No. 127 overall recruit, No. 17 wideout and No. 14 player in Florida.

As a junior, Wortham registered 67 catches for 1,360 yards and 17 touchdowns. Through six games this season, he has hauled in 30 passes for 528 yards and six scores.

Penn State has excellent 2026 class

Of the three receivers committed to PSU this cycle, the top-biller is Richmond (Va.) Trinity Episcopal four-star Davion “Fatrat” Brown. He gave the Nittany Lions a surprise pledge in May and remains locked in with the Big Ten school.

Brown is the No. 208 recruit and No. 35 receiver in the nation. He’s joined by Bear (Del.) Appoquinimink three-star Jahsier Rogers and Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic three-star Lavar Keys. Both have been committed to PSU for over a year.

Head coach James Franklin and his staff got to work early with this 2026 class and many of the top commits in the fold are like Rogers and Keys. Each of the two highest-ranked commits in the class are in-state teammates at Harrisburg in four-star interior offensive lineman Kevin Brown and four-star running back Messiah Mickens. Brown is the No. 3 IOL in the cycle, while Mickens checks in as the No. 14 RB overall.

Penn State’s class is currently at No. 16 in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. It features 25 commits, 11 of whom are four-stars.
