Big in-state recruiting win for Bret Bielema and Illinois landing EDGE Jacob Alexander

Frankfort (Ill.) Lincoln-Way East edge rusher Jacob Alexander announced a commitment to Illinois on Monday after visiting the Illini campus for junior day over the weekend.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Alexander chose to play for head coach Bret Bielema and his staff over offers from the likes of Michigan, Indiana, Kansas State, Missouri, Wisconsin and Louisville among others.

“Illinois was just the right place for me defensively scheme wise,” Alexander said. “I fit in. They play with outside linebackers who can cover and rush. But also the people in the building is what made it right for me. Everyone on the staff are just people I trust my future with. 

“The future for me is very bright in Champaign.”

Alexander becomes commit No. 6 for Bielema and the Illini in the 2026 cycle, adding to a class the On3 Industry previously ranked No. 25 nationally.

The Illini are coming off a 10-win season capped by the Citrus Bowl victory over South Carolina and Alexander loves the trajectory of the program.

“They improve heavily year by year because of everyone on the team wants to grind and win,” Alexander said. “The coaches are elite. They know how to coach to win and be successful.”

Alexander likes the vibe in Champaign as well.

“The area for sure Champaign Urbana, the community is great, the college town, the people in it.”
