Four-star WR Ja'Hyde Brown commits to Louisville: Hometown hero picks Cardinals
Louisville (Ky.) Christian Academy four-star receiver Ja’Hyde Brown has announced his commitment to Louisville and Jeff Brohm on Monday.
A former Indiana commit, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound Brown also strongly considered Kentucky and took several visits to Lexington.
“I was born in Louisville, this is my hometown. I was raised by the Louisville community. I’ve always been embraced by this community and have always felt the genuine support even while playing youth football. During my time playing in the National Youth Football League for the Louisville Chargers, I along with my teammates, represented the city by winning two National Championships. Prior to that, I played in the Louisville Youth Football League (L.Y.F.L ) with our championship games being played at Cardinal Stadium. It’s funny how things come full circle. I have youth highlights on YouTube of me scoring touchdowns at Cardinal Stadium and winning championships.
“As far as my decision, it was multifaceted for me on and off the field. Off the field, it was important for my family to be able to attend all of my home games. Another thing for me I will be an early enrollee being 17 years old arriving to campus. I believe I’m very mature for my age, but at the same time I’m still a kid. My parents have done a great job of supporting and molding me into a young man. I would like that growth of becoming a man to continue to develop throughout my early college career with my support system being close.
“On the field, my decision came down to a multitude of things as well. My current high school head coach Hunter Cantwell and my WR coach Doug Beaumont both played for the University of Louisville. However, it doesn’t stop there. Coach Cantwell and Coach Beaumont both played for Coach Brohm when he was a position coach at UofL. With that being said, my current offense that I play in is the exact same offense that Coach Brohm currently runs today for the Cards. Both offenses are so identical from the verbiage and alignment to the scheme. I just feel the transition from my current playbook to UofL’s playbook will be seamless. I feel that is an advantage going into to spring ball as an early enrollee to not have to think as much, play fast, and let my ability show. I feel this will give me the best chance to compete for a starting job year one.
“I also can’t ignore what Coach Brohm and his offense has done for guys like Taywan Taylor, Rondale Moore, Milton Wright, Charlie Jones, David Bell and Cullian Lacy just to name a few. A few of those guys were WR’s from the city of Louisville who had great college careers under Coach Brohm which is hard to unsee.”
Brown becomes commit No. 9 for Brohm and his staff in the 2027 cycle joining the likes of four-star cornerbacks Allen Evans and Jordan Haskins, and four-star playmakers D’Angelo White and Chuck Alexander Jr. General Manager Vince Marrow was Brown’s lead recruiter.

As a junior Brown turned 98 receptions into 1,556 yards and 24 touchdowns en route to a 15-0 season and a state championship. He adds to a Louisville class that Rivals previously ranked No. 14 nationally.
“Another reason I’m big on staying home is my trainer/mentor Chris Vaughn, who also played at the University of Louisville under Coach Brohm. He has helped develop me mentally and physically to be ready to play as a true freshman. I’m a 300-pound plus bencher and a 500-pound plus squatter. He’s enhanced my God-given ability like no other and my speed has improved drastically working with Chris at Aspirations Fitness. There’s a reason Rondale Moore, Wandale Robinson, and Malachi Corley were all top 65 NFL draft picks in their respective draft class. I want to be the next wide receiver to represent Aspirations Gym and the common denominator is our trainer Chris Vaughn.
“I also can’t forget to mention that Coach Vince Marrow played a huge factor in my recruitment. I was offered a scholarship by him when I was in the seventh grade when he was coaching at UK. Since then every year after that he made it clear to me no matter where he was coaching, my offer would stand and it would always be committable and that served to be true today. Another reason I’m staying home!”
Rivals ranks Brown as the nation’s No. 40 wide receiver and No. 291 prospect overall. He is the No. 5 prospect in the state.
Brown played in the Navy All-American Bowl in January. Other programs that offered during his process included Alabama, Auburn, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin.
