Spring (Texas) Klein Oak four-star running back Micah Rhodes, one of the top prospects in the 2028 cycle, tells Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett that he has decommitted from Oklahoma.

He pledged to the Sooners earlier this year on Jan. 29, but is now back on the board just a couple of months later. He originally chose OU over Texas, Texas A&M and others.

DeMarco Murray was instrumental in Oklahoma’s recruitment of Rhodes. Last month, it was reported that Murray was leaving his post as OU running backs coach for the same position with the Kansas City Chiefs.

“To be honest with you, I don’t know, man,” Rhodes told OU Insider’s Parker Thune when reacting to Murray’s departure. “It’s a lot of emotion going on right now. I’m happy for Coach, stepping his career up and going to do something that’ll help his career and help his family out and stuff like that. So I’m happy for him, but I obviously don’t know what to do… Me and my dad, we were talking about it. We’re talking to our agents, trying to get some closure on what’s going on right now and trying to get some ideas on what to do. But to be honest with you, we don’t know yet.”

Rhodes is the No. 37 overall prospect and No. 2 running back in the 2028 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 4 player in Texas.

The 5-foot-9, 180-pounder was long considered an Oklahoma lean prior to pulling the trigger on his commitment.

“Now is the right time because I feel at peace with my decision,” Rhodes told Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman in January. “I’ve built strong relationships with the coaches. I love the environment and my family supports me 100 percent. Once I felt that, I knew it was time.”

Rhodes is now coming off a pair of visits to Texas across the last couple of weeks. The Longhorns will be a team to watch for the blue-chip burner moving forward.

“Best visit I’ve ever had at Texas,” Rhodes told Spiegelman earlier this week. “I’ve been to Texas a few times and compared to all my visits there, this one was by far the best in comparison to all the other times. They’ve made an impression on me. I’m 100 percent sure Texas wants and believes in what I can do on the field.”

Georgia and Oregon are among the other programs that have remained involved in Rhodes’ recruitment. He was the lone commit in OU’s 2028 class.

As a sophomore, Rhodes tallied over 1,300 yards and had 21 touchdowns. Klein Oak went 5-5 but still finished as a top-100 team in the Lone Star State, according to the Rivals Composite Rankings.
