2026 WR O'Mari Johnson decommits from North Carolina for the second time

Wesson (Miss.) Jackson Academy three-star wide receiver O’Mari Johnson has decommitted from North Carolina for the second time in his recruiting process, he tells Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman.

Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels first landed a pledge from Johnson on April 6. He then decommitted from the ACC program on May 30. UNC continued to push, then landed his commitment again on July 1. Now, he’s back on the board again.

“After much thought and prayer, I’ve decided to decommit from the University of North Carolina,” Johnson said. “I want to thank the UNC coaching staff for their belief in me and the opportunity they’ve given. I’m also grateful for my family, friends, and everyone who’s supported me through this process. My recruitment is now 100-percent open.”

Johnson is the No. 608 overall prospect and No. 95 WR in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 18 senior in Mississippi.

The 6-foot, 170-pound pass-catcher is coming off a visit to Ole Miss and the Rebels will be one to watch moving forward. Tulane was another program working to land Johnson’s commitment after his first decommitment from North Carolina.

“Ole Miss continues to show me love and treat me as though I’m a priority,” Johnson previously told OMSpirit. “I love the fact that they didn’t stop pursuing me even after I was committed to another school.”

The UNC class entered October with 37 commits, a humongous class. It remains to be seen how long the pledge list will be when the early signing period rolls around as UNC maneuvers a woeful first campaign under Belichick.
