2022 lineman Hayden Schwartz decommits from Nebraska

Jacksonville The Bolles School three-star offensive lineman Hayden Schwartz decommitted Monday from Nebraska.

“After much prayer and talking with my parents, I have decided to reopen my recruitment,” Schwartz tweeted. “I would like to thank Nebraska, their fans, and the whole coaching staff for everything they have done for me and my family.”

He had originally committed to the Cornhuskers on July 14. His decommittment leaves Nebraska with only eight commits in the 2022 class.

Schwartz is the second player to decommit from the Cornhuskers. Chicago St. Rita offensive lineman Valen Erickson flip to Missouri on Sept. 6.

During the summer, Scwartz went on visits to Kansas, Michigan and Missouri.

Nebraska’s had a rollercoaster season

Scott Frost‘s fourth season at the helm of the Huskers had been a yo-yo, vacillating almost every week between impressive highs and confounding lows.

They opened with a mind-boggling loss to Illinois in Bret Bielema’s first game leading the Fighting Illini. Nebraska rebounded with two wins over non-Power Five opponents.

In a special rivalry game against Oklahoma in Norman, the Huskers played the Sooners close but weren’t able to make enough winning plays to pull off the upset. The next week was even more heartbreaking, holding a lead over undefeated Michigan State before a special teams blunder opened the door for the Spartans to tie the game and win in overtime.

It appeared the Cornhuskers turned the corner, and a 56-7 victory over Northwestern seemed to emphasize that.

But then they lost another game they had in their grasp to Michigan and laid an egg this past weekend to Minnesota.

Instead of being near the top of the Big Ten West, Nebraska sits at the bottom of the division at 1-4 with a 3-5 overall record.

This topsy-turvy start to the season has likely not been good for the recruiting trail. And while it is unknown how much it played into the Hayden Schwartz’s decision, his decommitment does not look good on Frost’s record.
