Austin Moilan is an emerging defensive prospect from Bastrop, Texas, known for his relentless motor and physical style of play on the defensive side of the ball. Playing linebacker and edge rusher for the Bastrop Bears, Moilan has quickly developed into one of the program’s most disruptive defenders and a rising name in Central Texas recruiting circles.

Moilan first drew attention after a standout sophomore season in which he recorded nine sacks, establishing himself as a dangerous pass-rushing presence off the edge. His production helped anchor a Bastrop defense that has been part of the program’s recent rise in District 11-5A Division II. 

Athletic Accomplishments
* 9 sacks as a sophomore, emerging as a breakout defensive playmaker. 
* Co-Defensive Newcomer of the Year – District 11-5A Division II.
* Named First-Team All-District Linebacker in the 2025 season, showing versatility and athletic ability. 
* Contributed to a Bastrop team that captured a district championship and in the next year advanced 3 rounds in the playoffs
* Holds multiple D1 offers

Moilan has demonstrated the ability to impact games in key moments. In one notable district matchup, he recorded a game-ending sack to secure a district championship for Bastrop, highlighting his knack for making clutch defensive plays. 

Playing Style
Moilan is known for:
* Explosive first step off the edge
* Strong tackling ability in open space
* High motor and physicality
* Versatility to line up at linebacker, edge, or tight end

His background in strength-based sports (weight lifting, shot put, discus) and physical labor contributes to his rugged playing style and durability on the field.

Off-Field Background
Outside football, Moilan spends much of his time working on the Watterson Ranch near Bastrop, where he helps with livestock and daily ranch operations. The work ethic developed through ranch life—early mornings, long hours, and physically demanding labor—has played a major role in shaping his toughness and discipline as an athlete.

That same toughness and discipline shines through in the classroom as well where he maintains a 4.3+ gpa and is ranked 17th out of 384 in his class. 

Moilan also has a creative side. He taught himself guitar and enjoys playing and singing classic old-school country music. That blend of football, ranch work, and country music reflects a lifestyle deeply rooted in Central Texas culture.
