Virginia Tech QB Kyron Drones signs UDFA deal with Green Bay Packers after 2026 NFL Draft
Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones has signed an UDFA deal with the Green Bay Packers following the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported the news.
Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated reported that the Packers were hosting a Top-30 formal visit with an unnamed quarterback in the days leading up to the Draft. That player was later revealed to be Drones, making his signing with Green Bay not the least bit surprising.
Across 34 career games at Virginia Tech, Drones compiled 5,566 passing yards and 44 touchdowns with just 18 interceptions. The Houston native also totaled 1,798 yards and 20 scores on the ground. His NFL journey now begins. He was ranked at No. 21 on Mel Kiper Jr‘s pre-Draft QB rankings.
Drones is one of many quarterbacks that have signed UDFA deals shortly after the NFL Draft wrapped up, joining Georgia Tech‘s Haynes King (Carolina Panthers), Tennessee‘s Joey Aguilar (Jacksonville Jaguars), and Louisville‘s Miller Moss (Chicago Bears). Virginia Tech did not have one player selected in the Draft.

SEC tallies most selections in wild 2026 NFL Draft
Saturday marked the final day of the 2026 NFL Draft, and all seven rounds are now in the books. With it, the SEC came away with the most picks of any college conference.
The Big Ten won Day 1 of the 2026 NFL Draft, marking the first time since 2015 the SEC didn’t have the most opening-round selections. However, the league then took back the top spot with a strong showing in Rounds 2-3 and came away with the most draft picks this weekend in Pittsburgh.
The SEC led the way with 87 picks, followed by the Big Ten (68), the ACC (38), the Big 12 (38), and Notre Dame, Group of 6, FCS, and international (26).
