It’s time for a change in Miami. On Wednesday morning, it was reported that the Dolphins would be benching starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for rookie Quinn Ewers. This comes following a 28-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers to drop Miami to 6-8 on the season.

Not everyone is seemingly happy with the move, though. Shortly after that news broke, star wide receiver Tyreek Hill took to Twitter/X. There, he posted an ominous reaction to the benching.

In the post, Hill simply uses a peace sign emoji along with a GIF. The GIF shows someone flashing a peace sign before disappearing. You can view that post, here:

Tyreek Hill has been in Miami since 2022 to mixed results. A star, he’s been to the Pro Bowl twice with Tua Tagovailoa as his quarterback with the Dolphins. In 2023, he would also lead the NFL in receiving yards and was tied for the lead in receiving touchdowns.

However, in 2024, Miami would miss the playoffs for the first time since 2021. At the time, he was openly frustrated with the Dolphins. He would make multiple cryptic posts about his future with the Dolphins as well. That included posting, “It’s time for me to go coach.” Later, he’d go on to more extensively explain himself.

“This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs,” Hill said. “For me, like I said, I just gotta do what’s best for me and my family. If that’s here or wherever the case may be. …I’m opening the door. I’m out bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I got to do what’s best for my career. I’m too much of a competitor to be just out here.”

Unsurprisingly, that led to an offseason full of trade rumors. Still, he’d be back for the 2025 season, which has been another frustrating one. For Hill, it was also a season cut short by a knee injury at the end of September that saw him dislocate his left knee and tear multiple ligaments in the process.

Of course, whether or not Hill is gone from Miami may not be up to him. He’s still under contract with the Dolphins through 2026. With a reported base salary of $29.9 million and coming off a major injury, he could be a difficult player to move in a trade.

It appears that Miami is looking at a future with a new-look offense. Quinn Ewers is going to get a look in the final weeks of the regular season. That starts with the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, December 21st. However, what the team looks like beyond that is anyone’s guess.
