Tariq Woolen called for bonehead fourth-down penalty, immediately gives up Puka Nacua TD

Seattle Seahawks defensive back Tariq Woolen cost his team big-time on back-to-back plays in the NFC Championshp vs. the Los Angeles Rams. Now what could have been a defensive stop for the Seahawks turned into seven points for the Rams that cut Seattle’s lead to one possession.

After it looked like the Seahawks had got a stop on third down, Woolen was called for unsportsmanlike conduct after yelling something toward the Rams bench in celebration. That resulted in a 15-yard penalty that gave LA an automatic first down. The very next play, Woolen gave up a touchdown to Puka Nacua that made it 31-27 with a little more than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

Seattle got the ball back but later ended up having to punt it back to the Rams. That means LA could take the lead on the next possession and Woolen’s pair of mistakes could loom large on the end result of this one.

The defensive back at least has been able to make some positive impact in the game with two tackles and two passes defended. He’ll look to make some plays down the stretch and redeem himself to keep Seattle from blowing its lead entirely. The winner of this game will advance to the Super Bowl to take on the New England Patriots.

Tom Brady compares Jake Bobo TD to Beastquake

Shortly after coughing up a fumble on a punt return earlier in the game, the Rams watched the Seahawks convert it into a touchdown via an unlikely hero: Jake Bobo. The receiver entered Sunday’s game with only three catches the entire season. No matter.

When Sam Darnold dropped to pass, he looked one way and brought the coverage over with his eyes. Jake Bobo did the rest with a double move on a post corner on the other side of the formation.

The touchdown strike, which put the Seahawks up 24-13 in the game, even drew some rare praise from commentator Tom Brady. He compared the moment to the famous Marshawn Lynch run against the New Orleans Saints in the playoffs more than a decade ago dubbed the “Beastquake.”

“Last week it was a Shaheed-quake, a Bobo-quake on this one,” Brady said. “The 12s are fired up. All the coverage was rotating to the right side of the field. Bobo with the little wiggle to the corner, back to the post. All the room Darnold needs to lay one out there for him.”
