Samaje Perine addresses awkward Patrick Mahomes snub during Super Bowl loss
In the closing moments of Sunday’s 40-22 Super Bowl LIX defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes went down the bench and dapped up all of his skill players.
All but one, that is, as Mahomes skipped running back Samaje Perine, who appeared to stand up anticipating he was next. Mahomes hugged tailback Isiah Pacheco and walked past Perine before embracing tight end Travis Kelce.
Perine has since shared what happened from his perspective.
“Lol I actually stood up to untie my pants string, no one blamed anybody,” Perine commented on BricksCenter’s Instagram post of the video. “It’s not that deep.”
In the moment, it certainly looked like Mahomes gave Perine the cold shoulder. But now, it looks like it was a misunderstanding.
Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs throttled in Super Bowl LIX
For nearly 60 minutes of play, the Chiefs were discombobulated. Philadelphia raced out to a 24-0 lead at the half and never let up, led by a standout effort from their No. 1 ranked defense. Without sending a single blitz, Philadelphia sacked Mahomes six times across 42 dropbacks.

Mahomes finished 21-of-32 for 257 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. The Eagles held Kelce to just four receptions for 39 yards in what could have been the final game of his Hall of Fame career.
For the Chiefs, a chance at becoming the first team to hoist three consecutive Lombardi trophies — gone, just like that. Mahomes took ownership for the lopsided loss.
“I take ownership in the loss, probably more than any one in my career,” Mahomes said after the game. “I put us in some bad spots.”
He added: “We didn’t start how we wanted to. I take all the blame for that. Those early turnovers swung the momentum of the game. That’s 14 points I kind of gave them. Just didn’t play up to my standard.”
