As the new league year approaches, the Chicago Bears are making huge moves. The team is reportedly trading veteran wide receiver D.J. Moore to the Buffalo Bills. Per NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, the Bears are acquiring a 2026 second-round pick in the deal. Buffalo is also acquiring a fifth-round pick.

Moore serves as a massive addition to Josh Allen‘s repertoire, as Buffalo has not had a true WR1 since Stefon Diggs‘ departure following the 2023 season. Across eight NFL seasons, the Maryland alum boasts 608 career receptions for 8,213 yards and 41 touchdowns.

As for Chicago, the move frees up $16.5 million in cap room. Moore hauled in 96 (2023) and 98 (2024) catches in his first two seasons with the organization, but was reduced to just 50 last season. This move allows for younger receivers (Luther Burden, Rome Odunze, and Colston Loveland) to move into more prominent roles in Chicago’s offense, led by quarterback Caleb Williams.

Moore will forever be remembered as a Chicago Bears legend, due in part to his game-winning touchdown catches against the Green Bay Packers from this past season. The Bears trailed the Packers 16-6 with 5:03 remaining in their Dec. 20 matchup, before a field goal and a late touchdown pass sent the game to overtime. In overtime, Caleb Williams connected with Moore for a 46-yard game-winning touchdown to cement the rivalry victory for Chicago.

The two historic franchises met once again in the NFC Wild Card Round. It looked as if the Packers would be advancing to the Divisional Round, as they held a commanding 21-3 lead at halftime. Chicago, once again, stormed back, however, and pulled within three points with 4:18 remaining. After getting the ball back, Williams found a wide-open Moore down the sidelines for a go-ahead 25-yard touchdown. This led to the Bears’ first Playoff victory since the 2010 season.

D.J. Moore serves as massive addition for Buffalo Bills

The move to bring in Moore is certainly a bit of a risk for Buffalo, as it will take on $24.5M in salary for 2026 and assume a $15.5M guarantee for 2027. However, the time to go all in is now. The Bills are led by one of the best players in the NFL (Josh Allen), hired a first-year coach in Joe Brady, and have failed to reach the Super Bowl in the Allen era.

Surrounding Allen with all the talent possible, along with rebuilding its defense, will be instrumental in avoiding another disappointing Playoff finish. As for Chicago, they are not done on the trade market, according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz.
