Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Pat Bryant was carted off the field in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Bryant, with 31 seconds remaining in the game, took a massive hit over the middle of the field from Jaguars cornerback Montaric Brown.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Bryant’s facemask was unscrewed from his helmet as the medical staff tended to him on the field. Both teams surrounded Bryant at midfield as he was carted off. Bryant was loaded directly into an ambulance and taken to a local hospital.

The Jaguars picked up a 34-20 win over the Broncos. Denver is now 12-3, still occupying the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Obviously, the immediate focus is on the health of Bryant.

“He’s got movement. That’s encouraging,” head coach Sean Payton said after the game of Bryant. “I’ll get an update probably here in the next 15 minutes, but he was moving his hands and his legs.”

Pat Bryant was showing progress in rookie season

Bryant, the 2025 third-round pick out of Illinois, had five catches for 42 yards before exiting the game. The 23-year-old has seen his role in the offense increase as the season has progressed. Bryant entered Sunday’s game with 22 receptions for 305 yards and a score.

“Sometimes it’s funny because as a quarterback, you want to have a firm throw, you want to throw it hard, and if a guy runs through it, you’re kind of like, ‘Man, I must not be throwing it very hard to you if you can kind of just catch it like that.’ For a guy like that, he’s very smooth,” quarterback Bo Nix said earlier this month of Bryant, via Predominantly Orange. “He just sees the ball well, he plucks it out of the air, he uses his hands…

“He’s a very good route runner for us in all aspects of the route tree. He’s good after the catch, but he’s a great blocker as well. He’s an every-down receiver just getting better and better each and every week. It’s fun to see.”
